About the Forum

This open forum will address collaborations, conflicts, and future prospects in alliances between Parks and Indigenous People in the protection of Endangered Species. Participants include Indigenous thinkers from Taiwan and Australia, National Parks research scholars, and other scholars from Taiwan and Australia.

The Forum will be moderated by Professor Deborah Rose. Guest speakers include:  

  • Professor Lin, Yih-ren, Human Geography, Providence University, Taichung, Taiwan
  • Mr Neqou Soqluman, Elder, Bunun tribe, Nantou County, Taiwan
  • Mr Roy 'Dootch' Kennedy, Sandon Point Aboriginal Tent Embassy, NSW
  • Dr Denis Byrne, Manager, Research Section, Cultural Heritage Division, Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (NSW)

About the Speakers

Mr Soqluman is a Bunun Elder, co-founder of the Tongku Saveq movement, and a prize-winning novelist. He is completing a master's degree in Ethnobiology.

Professor Lin is a Human Geographer with action research experience in multi-cultural perspectives on ecological knowledge and activism.

Uncle 'Dootch' Kennedy is one of the founders of the Sandon Point Aboriginal Tent Embassy, where he currently keeps the fire alive and continues the struggle for the protection of the area.
