NSW Case Management Research Collaboration
Who we are
The Case Management Research Collaboration consists of a number of organisations concerned with the care of older people in the community. Macquarie University’s Centre for Research on Social Inclusion is in partnership with the Aged and Community Services Association (NSW & ACT), NSW Community Options Projects Inc, Community Care (Northern Beaches) and the NSW Department of Health.
The Collaboration aims to develop a research program that will investigate case management in community aged care in New South Wales, with the aim of informing government policy to get the best possible outcomes for community care clients.
Current research
The Case Management Collaboration is currently conducting a survey of managers of community care service outlets that provide particular case managed community care programs. The following programs are included in this research:
- Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs)
- Extended Aged Care in the Home (EACH)
- Extended Aged Care in the Home – Dementia (EACH-D)
- Community Options (COP)
- Compacks
- Healthy at Home
The case management survey will gauge managers’ perceptions of the purpose and desirable outcomes of case management services for older community care clients, and obtain some basic information about the case management workforce. Clients will benefit from this research because the findings will be used to input into policy decisions about case management, specifically, decisions about which outputs and outcomes should be measured, and how they should be measured. The findings will also help to develop the case management workforce by informing the professional development of current case managers and by helping to identify sources of future case managers.
Most services in NSW with eligible programs have already been contacted and asked to participate. If your service has not been contacted, you can contact the Research Officer on at casemanagement.crsi@scmp.mq.edu.au.
Once the project is complete (in mid-2009), the researchers will publish a report which will be available for downloading from this website, as well as being made available by the industry partners.
